The Latest

After eighteen years - our Maytag washer and dryer gasped their last breath last week. We are the proud owners of a new HE frontloader washer & dryer set. I didn't think I'd be so giddy about doing laundry, and watching the loads turn around and around, and seeing how different the clothes look when they are out of the dryer. The Loews people who carried out our old models said they were so old school they didn't even thing the parts could be salvaged for anything. Now I'm thinking about some land fill that's going to be even bigger with our washer and dryer.
Even bigger news than the washer and dryer is that Rhett was not picked up for the next promotion in the Air Force (Colonel) which he thought he night get, so that door is completely closed. We went for a walk yesterday and talked about the pros and cons of staying in the Air Force if he was promoted, but now that door is closed and Rhett is free to pursue all kinds of avenues. We're not limiting ourselves to staying in the D.C. area, but since we have the house and jobs are more plentiful here, we are probably going to get to stay, at least for a few more years. We love Virginia, so its just fine if we stay here.
Livi is getting braces - yes - all because she stuck two fingers in her mouth at two hours old and wouldn't stop for eight years! She's excited, and it looks like they will be on a long time. I told her the story of Aunt Joni having braces for a long time, and how straight her teeth are now!
Garrett leaves for Arabic Camp on Sunday, and we are going to be spending most of the next few weeks at the Water Park.

congrats on the new washer and dryer, and thats exciting that you can stay in Virginia for longer. Tell Livi that Joni has the most beautiful teeth ever now, after 6 years of braces. Hopefully she doesn't have them that long though, I'd go crazy.

Someimes I think appliances are supposed to last forever. Nothing does. Our kitty Daisy died today; everything changes so quickly. I hope you are able to stay in Virginia as long as possible. You have really been happy there, especially in your ward, and the children have made so many good friends. We'll say some prayers for Rhett to find the right job.

Love, Dad

Sounds like Rhett has some options on the job front. That's good to hear - I just read this morning that Virginia is a good place to find jobs right now so maybe something else will open up.

Sounds like the washer and dryer breaking down wasn't such a bad thing - those new appliances are pretty cool. Kendi may have told you. Our van only has 70K miles but the transmission is toast. It's going to cost over $3000 to fix which is a major bummer. Word to the wise, don't skip flushing your transmission when it's due.

Those new washer and dryers are pretty cool! Anything to improve the laundry duty is a big deal! Hope all goes well with the job hunt. If you ever want to move west, Colorado is a pretty cool place to live--as you already know! Good luck with the braces, Livi! It will be so worth it for a perfect smile. Have fun at the water park. Sounds perfect!

Congratulations on the new washer and dryer! Much deserved - - -and needed! I'm amazed that old one hung in there so long, knowing how much laundry went through it! Isn't is wonderful how much they've improved?

In a way, I'm sure Rhett not getting the promotion will prove to be a blessing. Jim feels Rhett has much to offer in the "civilian" world, and will undoubtedly find it to his benefit in the long run. Go for it, Rhett! We're cheering for you.

Livi, good luck on the braces! Having been a middle school teacher for so many years, I'm sure you'll find half your friends in the same situation, and you will have an even prettier smile than you do now when it's all finished.

Have fun at camp, Garrett. You'll be able to have little conversations with your Dad when you come home, perhaps?

Love you all.

Funny commentary, Melicia called Lowes to ask some question about the Washer/Dryer (not sure if it was before or after installation) and Gregory, who works at Lowes answered the phone. He came home that night and said, "I think sister Jefferies called and spoke to me today".

Next thing you know, there's a blog post about new washers and dryers...
