Meeting an Apostle & other highlights

Elder Neil Anderson, the newest of the Twelve Apostles, same to town this past weekend. Since it's a chance of a lifetime to meet and speak with an Apostle, The Stake Officers and their families were invited to a light dinner between sessions on Saturday. Since I was feeling sick and I didn't think Elder Anderson needed to watch an energetic three year old dive off the table, Livi and Becca went to meet him. He talked with them about his own grandchildren, who live in Baltimore, and that they would have to keep them awake while he was speaking in Stake Conference. Rhett said his approach is very kind, and very laid back. When asked the question about what it is like to meet with the Brethren and be with them, he became very emotional and told of his love for them, and how some of the older Apostles were in their positions when he was growing up. He said sometimes he thinks they are going to turn to him and ask him to leave! Anyway, Becca was very shy and wasn't able to answer his questions, but Livi was a little more ready to speak. I wish I was able to meet him too!

Garrett was "asked" to do his part to help with the deck, and he wasn't in the best mood that day, but he helped. We stained the deck a pretty color called "weathered barn" - a pricey way to make the deck look old and weathered. We also power washed the house because we were the target of an egging. The house looks so much better now! Just in case we have to move, we are getting these projects check off one at a time, and if we don't have to move, all the better!

First day of school for Livi - our camera is a little blurry

Last lemonade stand of the season, Becca loves to make money!

We sat in the front row, just in front of the Elder Anderson's 9 grandchildren. One of his daughters had 5 children in 5 years, they were all perfect angels the whole time, in their little suits. The other family of 4 grandchildren were a little older but not much. They too were perfect.

After the meeting, we waited around to observe whether Grandpa would come greet them (and of course we'd be right there too). Since there were two lines of people up on the stage waiting to shake his hand, a couple of the grand kids decided they couldn't wait any longer and were going to get in line and greet him (which was also fun to observe). When it was their turn and he saw them he crouched down and gave them great big hugs. Pretty cool...

We did not wait in line, we felt that merely observing (him and his daughters/grandchildren) for more than a half hour from 15 feet away was probably more intimate than actually taking his hand and saying "hello".

Very neat for the kiddos - - and sorry you were under the weather. The pictures of Becca and Livi ready for school are so cute. I love Becca's hair done back that way. Very pretty. Thanks for sharing. Love you all lots.

Very cool. On my mission, I got to meet a few of the apostles - each of them carry the spirit with them very strongly.

Let us know how the job search thing goes. Good luck!

I'm finally getting back to the blogs. This apostle spoke in conference today. He seemed very sharp and, like the others, full of wisdom and spiritual strength. How nice that the kiddos got to meet him. Hope you are feeling better. We're very proud of you and all those beautiful people all in one family.

Love, Dad
